HMB is thought to minimise protein breakdown when combined with resistance-training and may cause an increase in muscle mass and strength.
It is suggested that taking 1 gram of HMB with 1 gram of Vitamin C, 1 hour before training, minimises muscle soreness and improves recovery times.

HMB is thought to aid preservation of muscle tissue when dieting.

How much beta-Hydroxy beta-methylbutyric acid (HMB)should I use a day?

For most people, 3gm’s a day. Divided into 3 servings with meals. For larger people, 200lbs+ might require a little more, but a 110lb woman might only need 2gm. Use discretion!

The following foods contain a high concentration of HMB

Please note that these foods do not contain enough HMB to be realistically considered as a method of HMB supplementation.

HMB is a safe and tested supplement, and aids your body during strenuous strength training, and may also help endurance athletes by accelerating recovery and/or preserving muscle mass during serious training. 3-gram-per-day dose appears to be most effective. HMB intakes should be coupled with adequate protein consumption of at least 1 grams of daily protein per kilogram of body weight
